Today is weird. Instead of the zero parties I’m usually going to on a Saturday, tonight I’m going to TWO PARTIES. Ohmygod.
Anyways, I have picked out this cute little black and floral mini dress, but can’t decide:
HEELS…..OR COMBAT BOOTS?
Also, smoky eyes or cat eyes?

Why should the way I love myself
be synonymous with futility?
I have to live in this camera of a head every day,
I have to look at this strange body in the mirror every day,
and goddamnit it’s going to be a long life if I don’t enjoy the view.

I have been up for about 24 hours now working on this essay and dear god do I want to sleep. Every last cell is telling me to lie down and close my eyes so that all the ill feelings will go away.
And yeah, I understand it’s not that impressive for a person to stay awake for 24 hours, but I think it’s a bit impressive when someone (me) who normally sleeps 10+ hours out of every 24-hour...

It’s a bit unnerving when you look something up on Urban Dictionary, only to find that the examples of the word’s use fit your life to a T. It’s like Urban Dictionary and a fortune cookie had a lovechild.

“I believed that I wanted to be a poet, but deep down I just wanted to be a poem.”

Jaime Gil de Biedma
This reminds me of Foucault’s suggestion for making one’s life into a work of art, and Nietzsche’s assertion that one must style one’s character. I think of these as ethical maxims of a sort, and the idea of an ethics based on aesthetics has always attracted me.

As soon as this term paper is done (tomorrow) I am taking one week off from thinking about schoolwork and I am going to make myself spend a big chunk of time each day sitting down to write. And even if, as I expect, I end up with a notebook full of angsty, adolescent, awful poetry, I will have my goddamn feelings sorted out and written off so I can calm down and finish this M.A.

Suggestions, please!
I need suggestions for what to read. I do not want to read any mediocre books right now. So who are your favourite authors of poetry and prose? What are the best books you have ever read?

I was at a copy store making flyers for FTMFucker.com to give out during pride weekend when an older woman came up next to me organizing a big folder of papers. She looked over and asked me what I was doing. I was honest with her and told her that I was making flyers for a porn site. She was intrigued and began to tell me how she did some work for Drummer magazine in the early...

Really Vague Social Things That Annoy Me
-when people I’m with are like “You can’t do that!” and I’m like “Why? Will anyone be hurt or inconvenienced by it, including myself?” and they say “No but people will be uncomfortable because what you’re doing is weird” [and I say “(nothing)” and keep doing whatever harmlessly odd thing I was doing]
-that platonic/friendly...

Why Eating Meat Is Not "Natural" or "Necessary"
Cool and quick anatomical chart here: http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/natural.html explains that our anatomy actually suggests that we don’t need meat and maybe aren’t even adapted that well to consume it even though we’re “capable” of consuming it.

I Didn't Lead You On
Yesterday (during class of course) I wrote a few lines of verse and then realized- surprise!- they have a haiku rhythm. You know you write too many faux-haiku when…

“Calling the proposed trade deal an “Internet trap,” OpenMedia said in a statement Tuesday that the deal would also “force service providers to collect and hand over your private data without privacy safeguards, and give media conglomerates more power to send you fines in the mail, remove online content — including entire websites — and even terminate your access to the...

I Really Hate It When People Type Like This Like What Are You Doing This Is A Sentence Not A Fall Out Boy Song Title.
Confession: I need to listen to Fall Out Boy while I run because their songs basically all have the same tempo and it synchronizes well with my running pace.

You know narratives have taken over your life when you start shipping people you know and making life decisions by asking yourself “what would make the best story?”

Going to grad school has proved to be a continuation of my adolescent lifestyle. I stay up way too late eating cereal and watching bad TV and thinking about clothes and talking to my cat, I get all A’s, I do some poetry things, and I despair over my teachers and classmates.
