With regards to the plane ticket: how on earth did that happen? Also, that project better go excellently to make it worth $1000.

Well, I asked if we could reschedule for a flight later in the day so that I could do my class presentation in the morning. My friend, who ordered the tickets, said he would look into it and asked if I would be okay with paying extra. I said yes, knowing that there is a $50 rescheduling fee for our ticket type. So he contacted me later to say he had rescheduled, but the tickets had now doubled in price because we bought them in the off-season but our rescheduling had happened during travel season so prices had gone up. I had assumed he would contact me before definitely ordering our tickets if there was a price increase that significant, but he did not so now we are stuck with them. :/

I saw someone do a really good cover of Bob Dylan’s Simple Twist of Fate and now I have a disproportionate crush.

I just found out the word “vagina” is a Latin word that means “sheath for a sword” and the fact that they’re named purely for that function and everyone, even doctors, are basically going around referring to vaginas as “the thing that a penis goes in” without realising makes me feel a bit angry and sick.

It was when I learned this fact that I began using cunt to refer to mine.

Besides, I always thought “vagina” just sounded weird.

It gets better, pundendum comes from the Latin word for “thing to be ashamed of.”

So fuck correct anatomical language.

The Absurd Duplicitous Foucauldian Buddhist

I am currently endeavouring to be more like Camus’ absurd man, or else a Buddhist. I am trying both, expecting to fail at either. Today has been sort of ridiculous, so I am going to post about it because I do not wish to talk anymore to the people involved.

1) Today, someone effectively spent over a thousand dollars of my money on a rescheduled plane ticket without consulting me first. This more than decimates my savings. Significantly more than decimates them.

2) The benefit of this rescheduled plane ticket? Now I get to do a project worth about 10% of my mark that my professor was completely at a loss to figure out how to reschedule. Couldn’t think of how it might be done.

3) I got to participate in (read: listen to) a completely unproductive conversation about making poetry slams a more inclusive space, i.e one where misogynistic poems are not so loudly supported that people effectively hurt by misogyny will not leave in aggravation. The sexist-talking dudes feel they are being oppressed and persecuted for being called out for having misogynistic poems. The anti-sexist other side somehow thinks that just having a dialogue about how the poems are hurtful is going to be helpful, in spite of the fact that the sexist-talking dudes obviously do not understand the power dynamics they are enacting and cannot be made to because they continue to feel like they are being attacked any time someone tries to explain how they are privileged.

In response to these problems I am trying to be a calm, imperturbable person with a keen understanding of suffering and absurdity. But I am also inclined to be a person who cleverly schemes her way out of these problems using my keen understanding of law and humans. Both responses seem to represent very different ways of wielding power.

I'm not "offended" by the shit people say--I am harmed by it. When you complain about having to be "PC," you are saying that you are perfectly fine with hurting people and supporting cultural systems that cause tangible harm to certain populations.

♀ The Panda's Pensieve ♀: Horrible realization about men creepshots gave me that actually has me in tears → skeptikhaleesi.tumblr.com

theroguefeminist:

It’s not about sex - they have porn, they have as much fucking porn as they could possibly ask for

they have billboards and ads and primetime tv shows and hollywood movies and websites free videos magazines they have porn channels porn movies with sexy images of women

they have girls on websites who are paid to webcam with them

there are girls who post sexy pics of themselves online for them

none of this is enough, none of this is, at the bottom of it all, what they want

creepshots specifically says this isn’t enough - they don’t want pics of girls knowinglyposing (i.e. giving consent)

they want to violate, they want to rape, they want to own every woman walking down the fucking street

they want your teenager daughter, they want your mom, they want you

when you don’t know it, when you can’t say no, when you’re on the bus, when you’re walking down the street, when you’re at the beach

they get off on your violation, they want more proof that women exist for them and them alone

it’s sexy because it’s embarrassing, humiliating; they say it themselves

this is rape culture in its purest form

because women saying yes on screen, women saying yes to their faces, saying yes on their computers, on their phones is not what they want

that’s not “hot” enough

what’s hot is violating your consent, what’s hot is demeaning you, what’s hot is owning a piece of you against your will

and they won’t stop until we are all pornography

My baby brother’s first girlfriend recently confessed to thinking they were actually a boy. I asked my brother if this bothered him. His response was:

“Well, yeah. If I had have known they were a boy when we were going out, I would have said I had a boyfriend, not a girlfriend.”

He was ten.
